Super welcoming botanical gardens for family and kids. The staff at the gift shop went out of their way to be kind to our kids and point out the fairy garden and sensory garden, which was impressive. Don’t miss the interactive kaleidoscope! We also loved the former horse barn turned garden. Free but worth a donation.

What an amazing gem! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and tour from Pam. I love how intentional the team has been building this site -- from the restoration of the buildings and layout/theme of the gardens. You can see the love and hard work poured into this botanical garden in every detail. Beautiful plants, native gardens, medicinal gardens, asian gardens, a childrens sensory garden, etc. They are all lovely and well-maintained. The barns and gift shop are works of art. We enjoyed hearing about the life of this land from asylum and farm to gardens.

The gardens are free and open for all to walk through. They are getting better every year as more of the plantings start to mature. The secret garden is actually one of my favorite areas, be sure to look for the entrance through the horse bit gate in the one old barn foundation. Best to visit the other gardens when the water is flowing. There are numerous smaller garden areas, historic barns, and great paths through the hilly woods. There are about 25 acres to explore, so multiple trips can all show you something different.

Beautiful, well-maintained, historic garden oasis in Traverse City. Visited on a warm Friday in July. Completely free, donations are accepted, including a docent led tour on golf cart (especially appreciated for the mobility- challenged, and even our dog got to ride). The whole of the gardens can be explored at your own pace. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who go out of their way to make it a completely enjoyable experience. Will definitely return when in the area again.

We walked in and was greeted with a free tour upon arrival. My friend is physically handicap and can't walk much so they drove her around in a golf cart which was nice. It is a big area but not like a typical botanical gardens, not a lot of flowers or vegetation. They have a small Chinese garden that is very pretty. It was nice overall but we didn't spend a lot of time there.
